Steve Moore

Steve was a regular columnist for Southern Trout Magazine, where he wrote the "New Fly Guy" column to provide fly anglers with tips, techniques, and other advice between 2012 and 2019. He also wrote the "Kayak Hacks" column for Southern Kayak Fishing magazine from 2015 to 2018. In 2015, Steve created the Kayak Hacks Fishing YouTube channel focused on gear hacks, and fly and spin fishing tips. As of February 2024, it has over 57.000 subscribers. He has written six books on fishing the most recent being published in January 2019. Coming up on 71 years old, Steve is proud that he has been fishing for over half a century. His father, Hal Moore - the co-author of the New York Times bestseller, "We Were Soldiers Once... and Young", started him at the early age of five on small ponds at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas. It got serious when the family moved to Norway and trout were added to the mix. After pulling in massive trout on mountain streams, Steve was addicted with no hope of a cure. Steve is a graduate of the United States Military Academy and served 20 years in the Field Artillery including time as a commander in the 7th and 3rd Infantry Divisions. Upon retirement from the Army, he ran his own business until a major IT company recruited him to recover troubled projects. After 15 years with the IT company, he used that experience to form his own consulting practice focused on project management and troubled project recovery. In 2015, Steve shut down the consulting practice to follow his heart, fish and write about the great outdoors.
