After graduating from Emory University, I served as a Peace Corps volunteer in Micronesia on Pingelap atoll. During my time there, I taught English in the only school on the island. I also learned a lot about local fishing techniques. On one occasion, I joined a group of local fishermen on a nighttime fishing trip for flying fish. I "caught" my first fish when it leaped out of the water, hit my stomach, and landed in the bottom of the canoe.
Upon returning to the United States, I co-authored Micronesia and Palau as a way to share my passion for the islands of Micronesia.
I am currently studying ancient political theory at the University of Texas at Austin.
