Award-winning journalist Anne Fitten Glenn has written two beer history books and one thriller. She first learned about craft beer when she worked for George Stranahan, the founder of Flying Dog Brewery, in Colorado in the early 90s. Her most memorable beer experience was having Hunter S. Thompson yell at her in the middle of the night because she’d left the cover off of the Stranahans' hot tub. Hunter was naked, and she was holding a beer. AF moved to Asheville in 1997, soon after the town’s craft brewvival began. She started writing about beer and the beer business in 2006 while freelancing for both Asheville newspapers. Her often controversial "Edgy Mama" column ran weekly for almost seven years. Her "Brews News" column for debuted in 2009. In 2012, Glenn left her columns behind to take on the role of East Coast Marketing and PR Director for Oskar Blues Brewery. She helped OB's first expansion brewery evolve from an empty warehouse to an 80,000 bbl production and distribution facility. In late 2015, AF went back to independent writing and communications consulting, primarily for craft breweries. The History Press published her first non-fiction book, "Asheville Beer: An Intoxicating History of Mountain Brewing," in 2012. Her second beer book, "Western North Carolina Beer: A Mountain Brew History," was released by the same publisher in November 2018. AF self-published a horror novel, "Storm Mountain," in 2001 and published a second edition as a Kindle ebook in 2022. She now pens a regular “Mountain Brew” feature for Edible Asheville magazine as well as food and beverage focused articles for a variety of magazines. She’s written for and had photos published in numerous publications, including USA Today, Esquire, SevenFifty Daily, Thrillist, All About Beer, Paste, Smoky Mountain Living, WNC Magazine, Charleston Magazine, Edible Aspen, Explore Asheville, Vanity Fair, Virginian Pilot, and CraftBeer.com.
