After completing a PhD degree in comparative literature at UNC-Chapel Hill I taught at various universities and colleges, including Davidson College, the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and East Carolina University. In addition to my teaching I wrote and published 13 books (ten still in print), edited and published a weekly newspaper and several regional magazines, including The New East magazine and Tar Heel, the Magazine of North Carolina. I established my own book publishing company in 1975. My two imprints are Williams & Company, Publishers and Venture Press. My articles have appeared in national magazines, from Esquire to Publishing Entrepreneur. I have written several books on the business of writing and publishing, but I am most interested in the hermetic and mystical traditions (see my Mallarme and the Language of Mysticism, and Eliphas Levi: Master of Occultism, as well as several shorter Kindle books) and the history of ideas. I am currently finishing a novella, Did God Kill Little Theo, which will be available on Amazon as soon as it is published.
