Brett Shavers is a former law enforcement detective, prolific speaker on digital forensics, and writer. He has investigated all sorts of crimes and events, from petty theft to national security matters and everything in between. His investigations have taken him to international undercover operations where he infiltrated organized crime by assuming roles as a human trafficker, drug trafficker, arms dealer, smuggler, and hitman.
Brett's first book in 2013, "Placing the Suspect Behind the Keyboard", integrates traditional investigative methods with high-tech forensic analysis to build a solid criminal or civil case which was followed up with "Hiding Behind the Keyboard" in 2016.
"The Practitioner's Guide to X-Ways Forensics" was released in September 2013 and twice sold out with the first print runs. The second edition of "X-Ways Forensics Practitioner's Guide," published in 2022, was even more popular than the first.
Brett's latest book, "DFIR Investigative Mindset," was published in 2024 and fills a void in Cybersecurity skills with the why and how to think in investigations. Brett shows DFIR investigators how to see what others can't think as others wish, and do what others only dream.
Brett enjoys sharing information, teaching others, and finding the little things that others may miss in a forensic analysis.
