Formerly teaching Buddhist and Indian philosophy at Chulalongkorn University, now being the director of the center for the study of Buddhist philosophy, a center dedicated for the integrated study of Buddhism, philosophy, science, and art at Mahachulalongkorn Buddhist University. Besides teaching and undertaking research, Somparn also paints, composes and plays music, and writes poems, short stories, and novels.
