Matt Gryta is a prolific true crime writer based in Buffalo, New York. A staff reporter for the Buffalo News for over four decades, Gryta spent the bulk of his career covering gritty stories of crime, punishment and violence in the Western New York region. Early on, Gryta served as a U.S. Army war correspondent on the Vietnam battlefields. While calling in reports on the battalions battle field successes, he was brought to Chu Lai to serve as the officer in charge of the writers and photographers in the Public Information Office of the Americal Division. More recently, he has appeared on E! Entertainment Television and Investigation Discovery to shed light on remarkable cases he has covered.

Gryta has published The Four Angels, the story of the murders of Gail Traits four young children by her and her two trials and Joey 22, the story of racist serial killer Joseph G. Christopher, aka the 22 Caliber Killer, on Getzville Grove Press. Gryta was one of the principal reporters covering the Joey Christopher saga in Buffalo as it unfolded. His book, A Death in Buffalo, about the death of an 18-year-old boy beaten by two off-duty police officers and a third man, hit the shelves in November 2016. Gryta is also the author of The Real Teflon Don: How an Elite Team of New York State Troopers Helped Take Down America's Most Powerful Mafia Family, available through Cazenovia Press.
