On a cold January day in 2004, I learned just how fragile life can be.
A duck hunting trip led to the hospital, which let to a diagnosis of stage 4 cancer in my lungs that had spread to the sac around my heart. It was a death sentence.
And yet... I survived. In the dark hours right after my diagnosis, I found hope. And through the countless medical treatments that ultimately saved my life, I found reasons to live - the first dance at my daughter's wedding, the birth of my first grandson, my son's college graduation, and even helping others with cancer.
This is my story - the good, the bad and the ugly. As you will find, I am a guy who speaks his mind. If you have received a cancer diagnosis, or are a family member of someone with cancer, this book is for you. If you are fighting an addiction, or any other life-altering challenge, or maybe just need a new appreciation of life's blessings, it's for you, too.
I wrote this book to tell you how I survived, and even more, how I found hope.
Cancer changed my life - for the better
I wish the same for you.
