When Troy was in school, his aunt, Jane Davis, told stories about Jefferson Davis, Abraham Lincoln, and John Wilkes Booth. Jane contradicted many things his high school instructors were teaching. Jane got her information from her grandfather John Riley Davis. John Riley Davis was President Jefferson Davis's cousin. The reader will soon learn that Jefferson's brother, Joseph Davis, was instrumental in getting John Wilkes Booth to kidnap Lincoln. John Riley Davis had access to inside information from Jefferson Davis and Joseph Davis. Decades later, Troy wanted to know if his aunt's stories were true. He began doing research. With his aunt's stories as a guide, he could accept numerous stories historians ignored. Troy began to write. Troy wrote: "Jefferson Davis's brother: Abraham Lincoln," "Izola: John Wilkes Booth's Wife," and "They Wanted Lincoln Dead." Later, he compiled all his information into one book: "Lincoln, Davis, and Booth: Family Secrets."
