E. A. Dorrington Artist and Illustrator grew up in the post war years of rationing and austerity, compared with to-day, the education system could only be described as grim. In his own words, “half his teachers deserved to be locked up, the other half consigned to asylums”. Yet in the midst of this came one shinning ray of hope. A newly qualified teacher, one Ms Green would spend the last hour of every Friday afternoon reading from a children’s classic – enter ‘The Wind in the Willows’. Totally captivated, spellbound with excitement the impression that it left would remain with him for the rest of his life, along with one nagging question ‘what happened next’? Disappointed by various author’s attempts he decided to answer the question himself, the result – ‘Return to the Riverbank’. In the words of one reader “the magic has returned”.
