Steve is a theoretical physicist who is fascinated by the way in which financial markets work. Currently he works as a guest lecturer at the London School of Economics teaching on their MSC Data Science programme. Previously he worked for one of Europe’s largest hedge funds developing quantitative trading strategies. He enjoys the challenge of achieving robust results despite the inherent instability of markets. Sadly though he didn’t find a model that would have forecast Brexit… Steve holds a D.Phil from the University of Oxford and is a fellow of the Royal Statistical Society. Earlier in his career he honed his statistical modelling skills at engineering companies such as ABB, working extensively on large spectroscopic databases. One of his models was used in the chemical analysis and valuation of the crude oil flowing in the Forties North Sea pipeline. He still consults on spectroscopic data analysis for start-up companies. In his leisure time Steve likes to bake bread and, if time allows, he enjoys hiking in the Scottish highlands.
