Lynn was born in Marshalltown, Iowa and moved to California in the early 50s. He grew up in Ventura, California where he lived to surf. While in Thailand in 1968, during the Vietnam War, he had a significant encounter with Jesus Christ that radically changed the course of his life. After his tour of duty in the Air Force he graduated from both BIOLA University and Talbot Theological Seminary. He served for 10 years as the college pastor at Grace Community Church. Following his ministry at Grace, he was a leader in a house church movement for four years. For more than 27 years, he served as the associate pastor of the Valley Vineyard Christian Fellowship in Reseda, California.
Lynn’s greatest passion has been for pastors to work together and to see the Church move outside the walls of the building and to minister in the local community in a naturally supernatural way. He has found that the most natural way to accomplish this is in the neighborhoods where God has placed us. He founded Neighborhood Initiative in May of 2008 to carry this work forward and on May 1, 2015, he went full-time with NI. He has authored Neighborhood Initiative and the Love of God, The Incarnational Church, The Kairos Adventure, Jesus’ Secrets, and What Happened to the Grassroots Movement of Jesus?, his most recent book. He is presently coaching pastors and leaders to lead those in their congregations to love their neighbors and make disciples.
