I grew up in sunny Los Angeles and earned a BA from Stanford University, but I am an Easterner at heart. After I finished my MA at Columbia University, I worked for many years at book publishers in New York and London and eventually ended up in snowy Montreal, where I morphed into a freelance writer and editor and teamed up with Barbara Kaiser, an early childhood consultant, keynote speaker, and trainer. Together we’ve authored several books, including Challenging Behavior in Young Children (now in its fourth edition) and Challenging Behavior in Elementary and Middle School (Pearson Education), which both won Texty Awards for textbook excellence. Our bestselling Meeting the Challenge became a Comprehensive Membership Benefit of the National Association for the Education of Young Children.

I continue to write on other subjects and work with other authors. My latest project is Walter’s Welcome (Skyhorse, 2018), in which Eva Neisser Echenberg uses family letters and photos to tell the extraordinary story of how her uncle Walter rescued 50 members of his German Jewish family from the Nazis.
