Missy Mareau Garcia first decided to be a writer in the 6th grade when she thought it would be easier to write a book than a book report. The results were interesting, because when she didn’t know what to do with a character she would just kill them off, resulting in a series of quite gruesome tragedies. But Miss Fish was a sympathetic teacher and encouraged her to keep trying. She then got sidetracked with dancing and performing for the next 20 years, met her husband, moved from Hawaii to California and began raising their three highly entertaining daughters while writing and working in the tv/film industry. In 2005, her oldest daughter was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. This was life changing for the whole family. Although resources have grown greatly since then, she still wanted to write a book about what it felt like for their family to go through this experience, in hopes that other kids and families in the same situation would not feel alone and also have a way to explain this new way of life to the people who love them.
