Born and raised in Windward O‘ahu, Hawai‘i, writer and photographer Dawn Sakamoto Paiva has two decades of experience in the book and magazine publishing industries. She is the sales and marketing director for Honolulu-based book publishing company Watermark Publishing and runs her own business, Put It On My Plate, offering communications, project coordination, photography, writing and editing services, specializing in assisting chefs, restaurants, bars and food-related businesses. She holds a degree in English from Kenyon College, where she graduated with Magna Cum Laude and Phi Beta Kappa honors. Her blog, Sugar + Shake, chronicling food, drink and sometimes travel, was named the Best Hawai‘i Features Blog in its first year online by the Hawai‘i Society of Professional Journalists. Her first book photography was for the award-winning "From Kau Kau to Cuisine: An Island Cookbook, Then and Now" (Watermark, 2013).
