Alan Stephen Votta was born and raised in Yonkers, New York. He was a four-letter man in high school, playing football, basketball, baseball, and shot-putting. As co-captain of the football team, he played right guard on Charles E. Gorton High School's football team when they became City Champs in 1960. He served as Vice President of his Senior Class, President of the Varsity Club, President of the Senior Choir, and was voted Most Popular in his Senior Class. His time at Hofstra University was cut short when his high school sweetheart broke off with him and he decided to join the Navy. His attempt to get away from it all, ultimately resulted in his spending almost twenty-four years in the United States Nuclear Submarine Force, which is the topic of his first book, "Real Stories From a Nuclear Submariner." The book describes many of his experiences onboard subs, as well as the building of several subs during his career in the Navy. He was the recipient of several awards, medals, and commendations, during the years spent defending the U.S. as part of the silent service, and rose to the rank of Chief. The book also recalls many tales of a lighter more humorous nature, which exposes the reader to his delightful sense of humor. Upon his retirement from the US Navy, Mr. Votta joined the civilian world in various entrepreneurial capacities. At one point, he was the owner of a pawn shop, after which he ventured into real estate as a broker and an investor, renovating many properties for resale. Later he was a successful owner/operator of a wallpaper/window blind/decorating business. He has always had a capacity to fix anything and everything and a keen mind to embrace many interests, which over the years has included antiques and collectibles, especially antique clocks and nautical instruments. As described in his book, Mr. Votta's life changed considerably in 2009, when he reunited with the very same high school sweetheart who broke his heart so many years ago. They were married in 2010 and embarked a new life adventure together, which has included travel, and fun times with family and friends. Together they have created AV Publishing LLC and now have three books in print between them. Ann Votta wrote a book about their love story, "Reunited: When the Past Becomes a Present" and another about her Italian heritage. In fact, they both hold dual citizenship and have traveled to Italy together to the home of their ancestors. They both enjoy full retirement and love the life they live in Sarasota, Florida.
