Prof. Dr. Jan Wilke directs the Department of Movement Sciences at the University of Klagenfurt. Before, he was a research group leader in the Department of Sports Medicine and Performance Physiology at Goethe University Frankfurt. His research interests include the mechanics of the connective tissue, strength and conditioning in athletes, and the role of neurocognitive function in sport. With more than 100 publications, Wilke is one of the most active scientists in his field. He is a member of the American College of Sports Medicine and has been a keynote speaker at several international conferences (including 9th Interdisciplinary World Congress of Low Back Pain 2016 in Singapore, 2nd CONNECT-Congress on Connective Tissues in Sports Medicine 2017 in Ulm, Germany). Jan Wilke is part of the international think tank expert panel on fascia that was established in 2017. His chapter in the international anatomy book classic "Gray's Anatomy" represents the world's first comprehensive contribution on the functional relevance of myofascial chains. In 2016, Wilke was a Visiting Researcher at VU Amsterdam, and in 2018 he served as a Visiting Fellow at Liverpool John Moores University. In addition to his work at the university, Wilke mentors and advises several competitive athletes and top associations. In 2018/2019, he was the fitness coach of former tennis world number one, Angelique Kerber.
