I always wanted to write Children's Books. Ideas came and went, but the adage: "write what you know", left me with waiting to write about things that were happening in my own backyard. "Tortoise on the Move", the first book, is about my adult tortoises who lay eggs in the yard. When someone finds a baby tortoise - do they get to keep it? And how did it even get there? My second and funniest book is called "Scrub Jay Cafe". I have a large Scrub Jay who will fly into my living room for a peanut. I will also give her grubs I find in the yard. I began to wonder what she would feed me, if she could? That led to a very funny list of foods that rhyme with types of bugs! Kids say a lot of "Ew" when I read that one. The subtitle is "Do you want a rollie pollie in your guacamole." Thirdly came "Sea Turtle's Wish". I worked for ten plus years at a local state beach and saw many plastic toys get washed out to sea with the outgoing tide. That led to a book about making sure all your toys are picked up before you leave the beach, at least that is sea turtle's wish. The local writer's club called it "Seussical". Just Published - The Eight Phases of Luna - now available! This book is about our cat, Luna, who notices that the moon doesn't look the same and isn't in the same place at night. What is going on here? Very rich illustrations in watercolor and some learning about the phases of the moon, and an underlaying theme that nicknames are OK. When not writing I am gardening, playing ukulele, and line dancing!
