Alastair Thompson

Alastair is an author, teacher, surfer, and entrepreneur. His first newsletter series, written after the fall of Apartheid in his native South Africa, garnered a loyal following. Fodor’s Travel Guides hired him to write about his travels in South America. He wrote briefly for newspapers in the USA. Businesses in Europe, Australia, and the Americas pay him to write about the environment. He is the author of A Surfer's Guide to Enlightenment and is working on his second book. Alastair has lived on five continents and started three businesses. A passionate teacher, he taught scuba diving in Egypt, skiing in the Rockies, and snowboarding in the Appalachians. He taught capoeira in New York City,  algebra to kids with dyslexia, and English to kids in the favelas of Brazil. He married and has two beautiful children, whom he loves dearly. He lives in San Diego, California, and Florianópolis, Brazil.
