Vanessa Mooncie is a contemporary craftsperson, artist and author. She studied fashion and textile design and has worked as an illustrator and designed for children’s wear and interiors.
Vanessa’s textile designs are inspired by the rich tradition of knit and crochet through the history of fashion, and are a blend of traditional handcrafting techniques and modern design and style.
As an artist, Vanessa’s work is inspired by vintage children's and fashion illustration, and photographs of the 1930’s-1950's. The subject matter of her prints is influenced by the traditional circus performers and street artisans of the first half of the twentieth century and the Commedia dell'Arte.
Vanessa has written several books for GMC Publications including Crocheted Cats, Crocheted Bees, Bugs and Butterflies, Animal Heads, Crocheted Birds and The Gentleman’s Wardrobe. She has also written projects for various craft magazines and yarn companies.
She lives with her husband in a rural village in the south of England, an area which inspires her business and creativity.
