Jami Dennis, GISP, has been working with GIS for 30 years, blending the art of data visualization with the science of mapping. She’s passionate about making data both useful and beautiful— whether it’s designing intuitive maps, crafting compelling visualizations, or uncovering insights hidden in complex datasets.
After 25 years in state and regional government in Arizona, Jami now runs her own GIS consulting practice, helping organizations turn raw numbers into clear, impactful maps and visualizations. She’s worked in socioeconomic research, transportation GIS, database development, graphic design, and web development.
Jami is deeply involved in the GIS community, serving on the boards of the GIS Certification Institute, Women in GIS, and the Geospatial Professional Network (formerly URISA). She’s also an active volunteer in Arizona’s GIS scene.
When she’s not wrangling data or mentoring new GIS professionals, you can find her camping, hiking, or occasionally staying upright on a mountain bike.
GIS For Dummies (2nd Edition) is her first book.
