Daren C. Brabham is an assistant professor in the Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism at the University of Southern California, where he studies new media and teaches strategic communication. He was the first to publish scholarly research using the term "crowdsourcing," an online, distributed problem solving and production model that leverages the collective intelligence of online communities for specific organizational goals. His work has appeared in such journals as Convergence; Information, Communication & Society; First Monday; Planning Theory; Journal of Applied Communication Research; and International Journal of Communication. His work has been financially supported by the US Federal Transit Administration, the IBM Center for the Business of Government, and the Social Science and Humanities Research Council of Canada. A native Texan, he earned a B.A. at Trinity University in San Antonio, Texas, and an M.S. and Ph.D. in communication at the University of Utah.
