关于作者

Gregory Falkovich was born in Siberia, Russia in 1958. He grew up in Chernigov, a small town at the north of Ukraine. At the age 17 he returned to Siberia to study in Novosibirsk University. He started to do research in theoretical physics while undergraduate, at 1978. In 1981 he got Master degree in physics with honors and went to work at the Siberian branch of the Academy of Sciences. His hobby at that time was being a part-time stand-up comedian. In 1988-1989 he edited underground anti-communist newspaper and was briefly involved in the politics related to the first free elections in Russia. In 1991 he left Russia for the Weizmann Institute of Science in Israel, where he works ever since, all the way from postdoctoral fellow to the department head. Falkovich wrote his first book "Kolmogorov Spectra of Turbulence" (with Zakharov and Lvov, published by Springer) in 1991. At the moment, this is his most cited publication. The book is out of print but can be downloaded from the author's webpage http://www.weizmann.ac.il/complex/falkovich/ The second book on turbulence "Non-equilibrium statistical mechanics and turbulence" was written with Cardy and Gawedzki and published by Cambridge University Press. The textbook "Fluid Mechanics (a short course for physicists)" is also published by CUP. It is an outcome of author's twenty years of teaching the course on fluid mechanics. The author maintains a support website for this book http://www.weizmann.ac.il/complex/falkovich/fluid-mechanics
