Steve is a member of the LGBTQIA+ community and has had dissociative identity disorder (DID) since childhood. He wrote Memoir of a Mangled Mind to show the world a “day in the life” of a person with multiple personalities—although his “day” lasted decades—as well as warn about catastrophic consequences that can happen if a person doesn’t seek appropriate treatment. His hope is to create a dialogue on the disorder and its causes. Born in Arkansas, Steve has a BA degree from Augustana College in Sioux Falls, SD (1983); an MA degree from Wayne State University in Detroit (completed 1990); and a JD from Wayne State University Law School (summa cum laude, 1993). Steve hosts The Mangled Mind Podcast where he discusses issues related to DID. He lives in Florida with his husband and their clowder of cats.
