Two good neighbors make the best of a bad Valentine’s Day in a funny and improbably romantic short story by the #1 New York Times bestselling author of Just for the Summer.

It’s Valentine’s Day weekend, and Charlotte and Seth are not looking for romance. Armed with emotional-support bear spray, Charlotte is in self-imposed isolation and on guard from men. Having a stalker can do that to a person’s nerves. Just across the hall and giving off woodsy vibes is Seth, a recently divorced arborist. As in today recently. Heights, he’s fine with. Trust? Not so much. But when disaster traps them one flight up and no way down, an outrageously precarious predicament forces a tree-loving guy and a rattled girl next door to embrace their captivity. Soon their defenses are breaking away. Considering how close they both are to the edge, Charlotte and Seth could be in danger of falling—in love.

This story was literally so wonderful for how short it was
This was, in all honesty, the cutest and most heartfelt short story I’ve ever read. I already knew I loved Abby Jimenez because of Just for the Summer. But, man, when I tell you I’ll follow her novels anywhere now, I 100% mean it.Charlotte and Seth seemed fully developed and honestly like real people I’d love to hang out with. Nothing about this short story felt rushed and it was beautiful to see how much chemistry these two had in so few pages. I don’t want to talk about what happens too much since there are only 80-something pages, but just know that just because this is a short story doesn’t mean it isn’t worthwhile. Also, this short story was funny. Like not in the, ha-ha that was clever funny, but honestly hilariously funny in the most romantic way. I’m not a humorous person, so take my word for it when I say this was just a fun read in general that made me want to laugh out loud.My only gripe about this short story is honestly so petty but here it goes: I absolutely hated the fact that so many statements had question marks at the end of them. It took me out of the story so much when I’d just sit there and try to say the sentence in my head as a question even though it was a statement. Like I said, petty, but it bothered me so much.Overall, this was a very needed short, romantic comedy with a touch of seriousness. I loved her dedication (go check it out if you haven’t already) and I fell in love with the characters instantly. This was the perfect read for a lazy Sunday.

    What To Expect:
    ⭐ Two neighbors
    ⭐ Force Proximity
    ⭐ Weird Stranded Situation
    ⭐ Valentine's Day Romance
⭐ TW: Stalking, suicide, kissing cousins and protecting yourself with firearms.

    My Thoughts:
I don't know how Abby does it, but she really kills it even with a short story! This story is filled with the same witty banter she includes in all her books. While each character isn't FULLY deep like her full length books are, you get enough that shows you who these characters are. Charlotte and Seth (Main Characters) are both in their own ways adorably quirky, single and struggling through life circumstances at the same time. The story premise as a whole is hysterical. I actually felt bad for them for being stranded the way they were! I would have been FURIOUS!

There are moments that personally made me so uncomfortable and emotionally scared for Charlotte. I have been where she is and it is terrifying. Which is 100% a testament to Abby. I mean it was 82 PAGES! How do you do it!

I loved this but want all of them to have their own books. LOL.

THE FALL RISK is a cute and charming little romance and was my second experience with Ms. Jimenez's writing. And although this is a standalone title I was glad to see the couple from her other Amazon short story (John & Holly - WORST WINGMAN EVER) make some appearances here as well.

As for the story itself it was very brief and a bit rushed but also romantic. Both Charlotte and Seth were truly endearing and funny and I thought they made an adorable couple too. For all the laughs however this tale does contain heavy subject matter and pretty much everyone has a potty mouth. That didn't bother me any since I've got one of my own but I just wanted to make others aware as there are multiple f-bombs and other foul language some people may find off-putting.

And while I did enjoy the story I have to admit I didn't find this quick little rom-com as funny or emotionally engaging as WORST WINGMAN EVER. That being said the cast was great and Charlotte's best friend Izzy as well as a group of senior ladies from the California Poppy Retirement Home were absolutely hilarious. I seriously could have read pages and pages with just them and their one-liners, lol...

One thing I did note and sort of started to annoy me however were all the statements that were turned into questions? It was just a little weird and after a half dozen or so I started noticing and picking up on them. Here are a couple of examples: "Technically, I'm at her place?" and "Because you can tell a lot about someone by who they hang out with?"

Besides that I really have no other issues and this story was a fun way to spend an hour or so. It wasn't all light and easy but it felt real and had more than enough humor to keep it from being dark or depressing. It definitely made me stop and think a time or two and was a witty and well written little romantic comedy. I also loved that the best friends got a happy ending of their own and that there was an epilogue 6 months later. All in all I'm glad I read it and I won't hesitate to read more from this author again... 😊

It's Valentine's Day weekend and neither Seth nor Charlotte are looking for love. Armed with her emotional support bear spray, Charlotte is in self imposed isolation and on guard from men. Having a stalker does a number to one's nerves. Just across the hall is recently divorced Arborist, as in today divorced. When disaster traps the two of them in their second floor apartments, it forces them to embrace their newfound captivity. Soon their defences start to fall and they're in danger of falling... in love.

Omg, well that was both hilarious and adorable.
Abby is so good with short stories and love stories in general, and this was absolutely no exception to that rule!
Charlotte deserves so much but she is afraid but also doesn't want to be a victim. But Seth is just such a sweetheart, he's able to genuinely read her reactions and be what she needs even if he has to wait. He is a genuine good guy and not a wolf in sheep's clothing! Love that so much.
They were just completely adorable, add in Gabe and Izzy and I was laughing out loud so many times

I enjoyed this story. It had an empowering theme and the author handled the subject matter very sensitively. The characters were all extremely likeable. The tree jokes added an extra something. Good all round.

Currently in a book slump, I took a chance with my first read by Abby Jimenez and I was very impressed with her work. It was very refreshing to read a book correct in grammar, spelling and punctuation as these days that seems to be too high an expectation! The main leads were both sweet, humorous and endearing leaving you wishing them the best. The secondary characters were colourful and necessary.
Although a short read, the length did not detract from the character or story development.
It was sweet, funny, smart and subtly encouraging.
Well done Abby and thank you.

As always Abby manages to write characters that you fall in love with in the span of 80 odd pages. Seth was so wonderful and so was Charlotte. I’m actually surprised how much she managed to make me love her characters In such a short time.

As I have said on more than one occasion, I am a great admirer of any author who can successfully tackle the short story format. Delivering a properly rounded story with fleshed out characters in so few pages requires a certain skill. Many try and fail, but Abby Jimenez has certainly shown that she is up to the task.

I am not normally a particular fan of rom-coms - they are generally a bit too predictable and sickly for my taste - but I did enjoy this one. In her preamble, Abby Jimenez states, "All my books are rom-coms, but I do like to include more serious topics within them that some may find triggering." She is true to her word in this short story, which is perhaps why I found this rom-com more to my liking. Yes, it has the elements that the genre demands, but there is a sharpness to the wit and and a darkness to the characters' backstories that gives an appealing edge to proceedings that is quite refreshing. It is all the more laudable that the author achieves this within the confines of this short format too.

A quick read, but also a thoroughly enjoyable one.
