I've been a professional writer in one way or another for more than 40 years. First as a newspaper journalist, writing about sports including as a traveling beat writer covering the San Francisco Giants. Then, as a content creator for Nike's marketing website and internal communications. I then did strategy and physical/digital display content for an international branded environment firm before working as an advertising writer for a national healthcare organization. I'm a San Francisco native and a transplanted Oregonian. My first book, Portland Renaissance: When Creativity Redefined a City, examines the emergence of modern Portland in the mid-1980s and '90s, when the city became known for advertising, athletic wear, dining, craft brewing, urban living and more. It was a great experience meeting so many of the folks who built Portland up and interviewing them about the experience.
