Dr Leroy Maverick

Dr Leroy Maverick was born as a result of a terrible laboratory accident whereby the sperm of an ophthalmologist met the ovum of an optometrist. Fearful of what might eventuate from something so clearly forbidden by nature, his zygote was transferred to a secretive government facility in the desert. Four months later, Maverick emerged from the cavernous facility as a fully formed man with all of the skills and abilities of both an ophthalmologist and an optometrist. Maverick is considered the first ophthalmology-optometry hybrid human in history. Maverick’s career in eye care has been controversial. Following his stint as clinic director at a prestigious hospital eye clinic, all other eye doctors resigned due to feelings of their own inadequacy.. Maverick has been known to make patient's pupils dilate just by walking in the room, and it is said that myopia is too scared to progress in his presence. His avant-garde dress-sense including pantaloons and a legionnaires cap has been described by leading fashion designers as “ground-breaking”, “game changing” and “unnecessary”. In 2020 tragedy struck Maverick’s life. While at the construction site of his 800th practice, a wayward set of barbecue tongs flew towards him and enucleated both of his eyes. It was at that point that Maverick vowed that if he ever learned to see again, he would commit his life to bringing humor to an otherwise sad, bleak, depressing, miserable and flaccid eye care industry. 6 days later his first book, Cronea, was born.
