Wise born in San Diego, California published his first book "California Roadtrip 395" which brings different activities along Highway 395 starting at the Mojave Desert and ending at the Oregon Border. Activities described include mountain biking, rock climbing, peak bagging, day hiking, fishing, geology, historic mining camps, hot springs, and camping. This is a complete guide book accompanied by maps and photographs. James M. Wise is a geologist specializing in Andean geology and exploration of South America for copper and zinc. Along with his wife published the book "Hot Springs of the Andes" with GPS coordinates for each hot spring in each country including; Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia, Chile and Argentina. Author of the guidebook "Mount Whitney to Yosemite, the Geology of the John Muir trail", plus the memoir "Field Days in Peru" and fictional books on Peru and Chile.
