Joël Beacons has an education in plant science, chemistry, and ecological sustainability. Her background includes a career in conservation in which she worked with Native American tribal governments to permanently protect native wildlife habitat. Joël’s passion for plant cultivation led her to start a small farm in southern Ecuador, where she grows a variety of herbs and crafts a variety of natural remedies. She enjoys growing coffee, cacao, and a variety of tropical fruits. She also grafts fruit trees, hand-pollinates vanilla orchids, makes her own bean to bar chocolate, and processes enough coffee each year to keep her cupboards stocked.
