John Stewart Wynne

John Stewart Wynne (aka John Wynne) is an American author of fiction. He is also a Grammy-nominated producer of spoken word recordings. His writing has been praised by such writers as Paul Monette, Hubert Selby Jr., Yves Navarre, James Purdy, Rita Mae Brown, Charles Palliser, Barbara Trapido, Jenny Uglow, Rebecca Brown, Kate Christensen, Stephen D. Adams, Ben Schrank, Gordon Montador, and many others. He has written the short story collection THE OTHER WORLD (City Lights), the novel CRIME WAVE (John Calder/Riverrun Press), and the chapbook THE SIGHTING (Tree Line Books). His novel THE RED SHOES was published by Magnus Books in 2013 and was nominated for the Lambda Literary Award for Best Gay Fiction. (Wikipedia) In 2023 and 2024, Tree Line Books, the original publisher of the print version of THE SIGHTING, relaunched its Tree Line Story Book Series in ebook format with the following titles by John Stewart Wynne: LOUISE, DON'T GO; NARCISSIST; BLONDS; THE SIGHTING; A NIGHT IN THE PAMPAS; and THE NEEDLES HIGHWAY. In November 2024 they published a new ebook edition of THE OTHER WORLD; they will also be publishing a new print edition of THE OTHER WORLD, as well as new print and ebook editions of CRIME WAVE and THE RED SHOES. Wynne's poetry has been featured in The American Poetry Review and numerous other poetry journals. His controversial long narrative poem TWO STRUGGLING ACTRESSES, about an actor consumed by the personality of Jayne Mansfield, appeared in The Paris Review. His short fiction was published in HIGH RISK 2, Christopher Street, and John Calder's NEW WRITING AND WRITERS 17, among other publications. He has completed a new novel and a new book of stories which will be published in 2025. Wynne is also the producer of over one hundred audiobooks. They range from William Styron reading his Darkness Visible: A Memoir of Madness to John Waters reading his Shock Value, and from James Patterson's Kiss the Girls to The Great Gatsby read by Christopher Reeve. Wynne produced John Kennedy, Jr. reading his father's Pulitzer Prize-winning book Profiles in Courage which was nominated for the Grammy Award as Best Spoken Word or Non-Musical Recording. Wynne served as liaison and Executive Producer with Lucasfilm for a series of Star Wars CDs, worked with Scholastic developing dramatized, multi-cast audio productions based on Ann M. Martin's The Baby-sitter's Club series, and developed a Batman series with DC Comics. Wynne himself was nominated for a Grammy Award as producer in the Best Spoken Word Album for Children category for The Magic School Bus: Fun with Sound, featuring Lily Tomlin. He is also the author of the first popular guide to spoken word recordings, THE LISTENER'S GUIDE TO AUDIO BOOKS (Simon & Schuster).
