Sean Vigneau-Britt is a jazz pianist, composer, teacher, and author. "Jazz Scales" is a book of exercises he wrote to help students learn the scales and chords necessary for playing jazz. Sean holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Sarah Lawrence College and a Master of Music degree from Brooklyn College Conservatory. He has received the Morton Feldman Award and the Presser Foundation Fellowship. Sean studied classical piano at the Hartt School of Music in Hartford, CT, from age 8-14, and trumpet from age 10. At Concord Academy, he studied jazz performance and theory, Western music history, classical theory, and jazz arranging. In 2004, he studied jazz composition, arranging, theory, sight singing, and performance at the Bill Evans Piano Academy in Paris, France. In 2008, Sean received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music from Sarah Lawrence College, where he studied composition, performance (piano, trumpet, guitar), theory (classical and jazz), Western music history, ethnomusicology, electronic music, and conducting. He received the 2007-2008 Presser Foundation Fellowship. After working in San Francisco for five years as a professional jazz pianist and teacher, Sean moved to Brooklyn, NY, to work as a freelance composer and continue his teaching practice.
