William Beaudot nurtured an interest in the Civil War since his youth that ultimately led to the publication of two books with Lance J. Herdegen, as well as The History of the Twenty-Fourth Wisconsin Infantry in the Civil War. He also published fictionalized memoirs of life in the Unites States Marines in the mid-Twentieth Century -- A Kid to the Corps: A Midwestern Boy's Life with Movies and the Marines (Blurb, 2015. ISBN 9781320456135), and Four for the Corps: The Education of a Peace Time Marine (Blurb, c.2016). He enlisted in the Marine Corps in 1953, serving until 1957.
