Professor Ken Kobré has been an professional photojournalist, educator and author for more than 35 years. His former students, who include winners of the Pulitzer Prize, World Press Awards, and many other prestigious honors, work on staff and as freelancers for publications and media outlets around the world. Most professionals working in photojouralism or videojouralism today have been influenced by his textbooks. His book Photojournalism: The Professionals’ Approach, sixth edition, published by Focal Press, has been the widest-selling text on photojournalism in the world since 1980. His new book, Videojournalism: Multimedia Storytelling, was published in early 2012. Both are sold on Amazon, as is his patented invention -- Professor Kobre's Lightscoop® Deluxe and Lightscoop® Junior. The Lightscoop transforms the ugly built-in flash on dSLRs and advanced compact cameras into natural-looking, pro-like light. One of Ken's video documentaries, Deadline Every Second: On Assignment with 12 Associated Press Photojournalists (Personal/Single User Version, has appeared on PBS, and has been screened in Europe in addition to several cities in the US. He recently developed an app for the iPhone called VideoPro Camera™, which integrates professional features that transform the iPhone into a semi-professional video camera. Professor Kobré developed VideoPro Camera to enable video journalists and videographers to shoot truly professional video on their iPhones. Ken is the founder and publisher of the KobreGuide to the Web’s Best Videojournalism as well as its companion blog, KobreChannel, which featurers thoughts, essays and reports about visual journalism. Ken is also a co-author of the 7th and 8th editions of “Photography” (Prentice Hall) the world’s leading basic photography textbook. His other books include “How to Photograph Friends and Strangers,” published by Curtin & London. Now in partial retirement after leading the photojournalism program at San Francisco State University since 1986, Ken is a past winner of the respected Robin F. Garland Educator Award from the National Press Photographers Association (NPPA) and for four years directed the University of Missouri/NPPA Pictures of the Year Awards.
