Charles Lindsay

关于作者

Charles Lindsay is an artist-adventurer whose work synthesizes ideas about technology, time, eco-systems and semiotics. He creates immersive environments, sound installations, sculptures built from salvaged aerospace and bio-tech equipment. Lindsay’s eighth book of photographs, 'Recipes for the Mind,' was released by Terranova / MIT Press late 2019. His work has been profiled by WIRED, Motherboard, ARTonAIR.org, Viralnet, NPR and CNN International. He has lectured and exhibited widely, most recently at MIT Media Lab’s 'Beyond the Cradle: envisioning a new space age' conference. The FIELD STATION is his evolving installation concept. Charles’ current projects are centered in Kyoto, Japan where he is researching the possibility of Ai becoming sentient / enlightened in 'How to Photograph Enlightenment' and El Pescadero, Baja, Mexico, where he is discovering geographic analogs for habitations on Mars while speculating about the commensurate real estate boom in space. 'SE VENDE' encompasses these permutations. Humor will be required. Educated as an exploration geologist Lindsay was the SETI Institute’s first artist in residence (2010) and created the SETI Institute's Artists in Residence Program. Charles worked for a decade as a photo-journalist in southeast Asia before migrating into contemporary art. That early period included years living with a rain forrest shaman in Indonesia and remote travels in India. He is a Guggenheim Fellow, Fellow at the Nevada Museum of Art’s Center for Art and Environment, and the innovator behind OSA EARS: a project designed to deliver real time sound + data from one of the planet’s most bio-diverse rain forests to anyone anywhere with internet. Lecture venues have included Gray Area / San Francisco, Chronus Art Center Shanghai, Central Academy of Art, Hangzhou, “Destination Unknown: Aliens, Art and Consensual Reality” at Rhodes House for the Rhodes’ Scholars, ‘Conversations on Media Culture and Practice’ at CalArts Center for Integrated Media. Lindsay has presented at SONAR, Moogfest, California Academy of Sciences, Stanford’s Department of Art, 100 Year Starship Symposium (DARPA), USC’s “Visions + Voices” performance series, SwissNex, American Museum of Natural History, Mountain Film, SVA, Pratt, RISD, and many more.
