Dr. R. Robert Creech and his wife, Melinda, are native Houstonians. Melinda holds a Ph.D. in English from Baylor and is an independent scholar working on Victorian poets and 19th-century Texas vernacular architecture. They have three children, Alan, Taylor, and Jenna. Alan is married to Kathryn, and they have a daughter, Madison, and a son, Austin. Taylor, is married to Amber, and they have a daughter, Ava, and a son, Jonas. Jenna is married to Nathan and they have a son, Isaiah. Robert graduated from Houston Baptist University with degrees in Christianity and Sociology. He received his Master of Divinity degree from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Ft. Worth, Texas. He earned his Ph.D. in New Testament Studies at Baylor University. Robert served as the pastor of the North Main Baptist Church in inner city Houston from 1979 until 1981 when he joined the faculty of Houston Baptist University. From 1981 until 1987, he taught biblical courses as an Assistant Professor. From 1987 until 2009 he served as the Senior Pastor at University Baptist Church in Clear Lake City, Houston, near the Johnson Space Center. In 2009, after 22 years as a pastor, Robert joined the faculty of Baylor University’s George W. Truett Theological Seminary, where he serves as the Hubert H. and Gladys S. Raborn Professor of Pastoral Leadership and Director of Pastoral Ministries, teaching courses in pastoral ministry and ethics. He and Melinda live on family farmland outside of San Antonio, Texas, which they are converting to native prairie with a grant from Texas Parks & Wildlife.
