Nancy Jane

I am an artist/author born in Ontario and now living on a horse ranch in Alberta, Canada. I started writing poetry when I was nine years old and branched out into short stories. The stories just kept getting longer! For years I just put everything in a box and thought that maybe when I found the time I'd pull them out and find the courage to write a book. I've led an interesting and varied life, crossed paths with all kinds of characters and witnessed some incredible situations. In 1991 I felt it was time to start thinking about getting it done so I started writing another book about human trafficking. However, no matter how I tried to stay focused on what I was writing, another book kept demanding to be my first book and as anyone who writes knows, the books can dictate. Reluctantly, I started writing 'Flying Kites', a book that dealt with a lot of difficult things. It was a book that allowed me to combine some of those characters that I had met and manipulate some of the situations in such a way that the reader could experience the journey as it was by the characters at the time. Everyone experiences grief, similar to the main character and, everyone experiences that first love and that first lost love in some way or another. I used those backdrops to talk about the bigger problem of abuse, in sport, sexual or otherwise and how it has always been swept away under rugs or locked in secretive family closets. I wanted to bring these stories into the light. So, now that 'Flying Kites' is complete I have moved on to finish my original first book 'The Last Bull at Raymond' and expect a late 2019 or early 2020 publication. It's all good!
