Charles Phillips and Melanie Frances

Charles Phillips I am the author of more than 40 books, specializing in puzzles and popular science, mythology, history, cinema and arts. My How to Think puzzle series sold more than 1 million copies in 19 languages; I am the co-author with Melanie Frances of The Sherlock Holmes Escape Book: The Adventure of the British Museum. I’ve written histories of the papacy, leadership, Mesoamerican civilizations, the crusades and British royalty and contributed to books on the movies, politics, military history, Catholicism and Islam as well as Time/Life surveys of mythology. After a degree in English at Oxford University, I took an MA in Film Studies in London. Before becoming an author I worked in a community video group in Mitcham, south London, and as a teacher. Melanie Frances Melanie Frances is a digital storyteller, a game designer and a creative mathematician. She works between gaming, literature and performance to build responsive, meaningful & dynamic interactive experiences.Mel is a digital storyteller, particularly interested in using transmedia and multimedia approaches to create projects that bleed between digital and the physical worlds. Mel is a game designer. She creates pieces that are playable, interactive experiences that invite audience members to actively engage, construct their own route through a story, & often, change what they see. Mel has created app-based audio adventures, live performances, narrative video games, escape rooms and choose your own adventure phone calls. Mel is also the Co-Artistic Director of Produced Moon, an arts organisation who make digital interactive experiences, rooted in theatre.
