Dr. Vera Stevens Chatman is a distinguished psychologist, educator, and healthcare expert who has spent four decades breaking barriers and leaving an indelible mark on her field of expertise. Hailing from Wilson, North Carolina, Dr. Vera began her educational journey at Fisk University, a renowned Historically Black College and University (HBCU) In Nashville, Tennessee before earning her Ph.D. in Psychology from Vanderbilt University. Dr. Vera's career spans 40 years of service at Meharry Medical College and Vanderbilt University., where she held leadership roles that shaped the future of healthcare policy, education, and leadership. At Meharry she led the Elam Mental Health Center, where her keen leadership and problem-solving skills drove numerous transformative initiatives. Later, as a Professor of the Practice at Vanderbilt University, she developed programs and policies that helped train the next generation of health care leaders. In 2013. she retired as Professor Emeritus from Vanderbilt to dedicate herself to caregiving for her aging mother, a commitment she fulfilled for 10 years. In addition to her academic and professional achievements, Dr Vera is a sought-after mentor, empowering change makers and serving as a respected voice in her community. Her influence as extended beyond the classroom, making a lasting impact on policy development, healthcare leadership, and family caregiving. Dr. Vera's most personal and profound work stems from her experiences as a hands-on caregiver for her loved ones. This expertise led her to author, Dr Vera's Caregiver Workbook: A Comprehensive Guide for Navigating the Caregiving Journey, a lifeline for owerwhelmed caregivers worldwide. Through her writing, workshops, and consulting work, she provides compassionate, solution-oriented guidance for families facing the challenges of caregiving. Even amid personal trials, including the loss of her husband of 49 years of marriage, Dr. Vera remain steadfast in her mission. Supported by her two daughters and five grandchildren, she is dedicated to uplifting families and caregivers, one person at a time.
