Larry Smith is a veteran newspaper editor for the New York Times and Parade Magazine, where he spent nineteen years as managing editor. He was inducted as an honorary member of the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP), and continues to write article for Parade Magazine as well as working on his next oral history. Mr. Smith was born in Northern Michigan, and grew up in Charlevoix, a small farming community near Lake Michigan. He graduated from the University of Michigan where he studied journalism. He met his wife Dorothea while attending U of M. They have been married, over 40 years. They currently reside on Block Island. They had three children. Mr. Smith is a great lover of sport and adventure. His hobbies include scuba diving, mountain climbing, sky diving, and rafting adventures. He has climbed Mt. McKinley, and completed the NY marathon several times. He is passionate about University of Michigan football and attends a game in Ann Arbor almost every year.
