Andrew M. Colman is Professor of Psychology at the University of Leicester and a Fellow of the British Psychological Society. He graduated, first in Combined Studies and then in Psychology from the University of Cape Town, where he was appointed to his first teaching position, and he then lectured at Rhodes University before moving to the University of Leicester in the UK, where he was promoted to Reader in 1984 and Professor in 2000. His is the author of over 150 journal articles and 14 books, including the Oxford Dictionary of Psychology (4th edn, 2015). This dictionary has appeared on several Amazon bestsellers lists, including the Psychology & Psychiatry References and the and Neuroscience bestseller lists, since 2007 or before. Among his earlier books are Facts, Fallacies and Frauds in Psychology (1987), Game theory and its Applications in the Social and Biological Sciences (2nd edn, 1995), What is Psychology? (3rd edn, 1994), and A Crash Course in SPSS for Windows (4th edn, co-authored with Briony D. Pulford, 2008). He edited the two-volume Routledge Companion Encyclopedia of Psychology (1994), the 12-volume Longman Essential Psychology Series (1995), and several other books. He is fond of music (plays the piano) and puzzles of all kinds, especially crossword puzzles, and he used to play competitive chess.
