Dr. Danielle Knafo is a clinical psychologist and a psychoanalyst, a professor and supervisor, and an author. She is currently a professor in the Clinical Psychology Doctoral Program at Long Island University’s C.W. Post campus and faculty and supervisor at NYU’s Postdoctoral Program in Psychotherapy and Psychoanalysis. A member of the Authors Guild, Dr. Knafo has written numerous books and articles on a variety of subjects, including the psychology of art; women’s self-representation; creativity in psychotherapy; unconscious fantasies; working with trauma, immigration, and psychosis; and the effects of technology on our relational lives. She is a very popular speaker and is invited to lecture and conduct workshops nationally and abroad. She also advises beginning authors in the development of their writing projects, both academic and creative. Dr. Knafo is the recipient of numerous prestigious awards and prizes, among them the following. She has won the American Psychoanalytic Association’s CORST essay prize in psychoanalysis and culture. She was awarded the Swedish Barbro Sandin prize for training professionals to work with psychosis. She won the Abraham Krasnoff Scholarly Achievement Award for her book, In Her Own Image, as well as the Abraham Krasnoff Lifetime Achievement Award, the highest honor given to LIU faculty. Dr. Knafo has extensive experience treating diverse patient populations. She has been employed in a number of psychiatric institutions, clinics, and the court system, as well as in private practice. Dr. Knafo maintains a private practice in Great Neck, NY and Manhattan.
