After an apprenticeship in aircraft production and development, David qualified as a Chartered Engineer and spent the next 20 years in quality management with British Aerospace and Ferranti International. For the next 15 years, as a management consultant, he guided large and small companies through their ISO 9000 programmes and delivered quality management and auditor training courses throughout the world establishing his own consultancy business in 1999. He has published 12 books on quality management some of which have been translated into Japanese, Spanish, Italian and other languages. A member of the CQI since 1974, he was elected Fellow in 1988 and has served on its council and committees and has had several papers published in its professional journals. In 2005 he took early retirement but remains active in the profession, mentoring, contributing to standards development and keen to enable executives in government, public and the private sectors understand and manage the factors that affect the quality of their outputs. His ISO 9000 Quality Systems Handbook first published in 1994 is now in its 7th edition.
