David Schulenberg is known internationally for his writings on Baroque music and as a performer of keyboard music from the sixteenth century to the present. He can be heard as harpsichordist and fortepianist on CD recordings of chamber music by C.P.E. Bach, Quantz, and the Graun brothers, and he has contributed volumes to scholarly editions of keyboard and organ music by J.S. and C.P.E. Bach. Author of books on the music of J.S., W.F., and C.P.E. Bach, he also wrote the textbook and anthology Music of the Baroque, now in its third edition. Professor of Music at Wagner College (New York) since 2001, he has also taught historical performance practice at Boston University, Rutgers University, Queens College, and the Juilliard School, and was previously on the faculties of Columbia University and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. A native of New York City, he grew up in upstate New York and attended Harvard College before receiving graduate degrees at Stanford University and the State University of New York at Stony Brook. He has held fellowships from the National Endowment for the Humanities, the Andrew Mellon Foundation, the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science, and the American Bach Society. He makes his home in Boston and in 2015 completed hiking the New Hampshire “48” while also performing the complete Well-Tempered Clavier in a series of three harpsichord recitals.
