Jan Carr was born in upstate New York and raised in Cincinnati, OH. She's worked as a Head Start teacher, a magazine writer/editor at Sesame Street, and a children's book editor at Scholastic. She's also taught creative writing at The New School and in the MFA Illustration program of School of Visual Arts. Jan earned a B.S. in child development from Cornell University, and an M.Ed. in early childhood education from the University of Cincinnati. Since becoming a full-time writer, Carr has written over 50 books for children, including the new chapter book series Buddy and Bea, and the well-received picture books Star of the Party: The Solar System Celebrates!, Toe Shoe Mouse, 'Cause I Love You, Greedy Apostrophe: A Cautionary Tale, Big Truck and Little Truck, Frozen Noses, Dappled Apples, Splish Splash Spring, Sweet Hearts, The Nature of the Beast, and Dark Day Light Night, as well as the middle grade novel The Elf Of Union Square. For adults, she has written a novel, Harem Wish, and numerous articles about theater and dance. She currently lives in New York City with her husband and son.
