Andrew Beattie is an author working in two separate fields - books on travel, history and the environment, and stage plays and fiction for children. His first children's book was "The Secret in the Tower"; it was published in September 2022 by Sweet Cherry Publishing and was the first in a collection entitled "Tales of the Middle Ages". The second, "The Angel Player", was published in September 2024 (at the same time the first book was republished with a new cover). Both are historical novels for children aged 9-12. His stage plays for children have been performed by school and youth theatre groups in the UK, the United States and Australia, and include an adaptation of Mark Twain's "The Prince and the Pauper" (published by YouthPlays) as well as a retelling of the famous legend of King Arthur, Merlin and the Sword in the Stone, entitled "Arthur: Boy King of Britain" (published by Lazybee Scripts). His travel books include cultural guides to the Alps, the Scottish Highlands and the River Danube, and to the cities of Prague and Cairo (all published by Signal Books); more recently his book on walking in the Swiss region of Ticino has been published by Cicerone Press and he has worked on books in the Rough Guides series on Switzerland and Germany, as well as writing and researching the first edition of the Pocket Rough Guide to Geneva. Regarding his books on history and the environment, his 2016 book "Storm Force" (also published by Signal Books) looks at the influence of the wind on Britain's cultural, historical, economic and physical geography, while his books for Pen and Sword Publishing look at the places associated with King Arthur, Henry VIII and the Princes in the Tower.
