Dr Arthur Lyons formerly Head of Quality, Principal Lecturer and Teacher Fellow for building materials in the Leicester School of Architecture, De Montfort University, Leicester, UK was educated at Trinity Hall Cambridge, the University of Warwick and the University of Leicester. He also holds a postgraduate diploma in architectural building conservation. Arthur Lyons was a lecturer within schools of architecture and surveying for thirty five years. His book 'Materials for Architects and Builders', now in its sixth edition, is one of the standard texts for students of architecture, surveying and construction. The book has been adopted by many Universities both within the UK and around the world. The text 'The Architecture of the Universities of Leicester', now in a fourth edition, describes the history, context and buildings of the University of Leicester and De Montfort University campuses. The 'Home Information - Help! Where do I turn it off' booklet is a guide to record where critical service points are within the home, for quick access in case of emergencies. In recognition of his services to architects and architecture, Arthur Lyons was honoured with life membership of the Leicestershire and Rutland Society of Architects and he is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. Arthur Lyons continues to author texts on building materials and construction.
