LAURENCE DREYFUS, BORN IN BOSTON IN 1952, HAS FOR DECADES PURSUED AN UNUSUAL DUAL CAREER AS A MUSICOLOGIST AND PERFORMER. DREYFUS WAS PROFESSOR AT YALE, CHICAGO, STANFORD, THE ROYAL ACADEMY OF MUSIC AND KING'S COLLEGE LONDON BEFORE MOVING TO OXFORD UNIVERSITY. HIS PUBLICATIONS ON BACH AND WAGNER ARE NOW PART OF THE CANON OF MUSICOLOGICAL LITERATURE. IN 1994 HE FOUNDED THE VIOL CONSORT PHANTASM, WHICH HAS SINCE APPEARED WORLDWIDE AND RECORDED MORE THAN 25 CDS. THESE HAVE RECEIVED THREE GRAMOPHONE AWARDS AND THE DIAPASON D'OR DE L'ANNÉE, AMONG OTHER HONOURS. DREYFUS HAS MADE HIS HOME IN BERLIN SINCE 2013. HIS DEBUT NOVEL PARSIFALS VERFÜHRUNG WAS PUBLISHED IN GERMAN TRANSLATION IN 2022.
