David Barrett is a longtime golf journalist and author. He was a sportswriter at the Augusta (Ga.) Chronicle, the hometown newspaper of the Masters, and then for 18 years a senior editor at Golf Magazine, where he covered the pro tours and major championships, and developed an appreciation for and knowledge of golf history. His passion for historical research has borne fruit in eight books he has authored, including Miracle at Merion, about Ben Hogan's inspiring victory at the 1950 U.S. Open, which won the USGA Herbert Warren Wind Award as the best golf book of 2010. The Story of the Masters, a year-by-year account of the history of the tournament, was published in 2021. His latest book, published in October 2024, is The Greatest U.S. Opens, with chapters on each of 20 U.S. Opens. David is a graduate of Haverford College.
