Donald J. Porter is the author of 17 Days and 17 Miles Apart: The Crashes of TWA Flight 529 and Northwest Flight 706, to be published during early 2025. In another recent book, Flight Failure documents how missing nuts and bolts cause air disasters. In 2019, A Jet Powered Life: Allen E. Paulson, Aviation Entrepreneur, was published. In 2015, Howard’s Whirlybirds joined the list, it the story of Howard Hughes and his little known helicopter company. Earlier books profile the history of the Learjet and Citation business jets, as did his first book concerning the McDonnell Douglas OH-6A helicopter. An avid follower of current aviation events and aerospace history, Porter is a contributing writer to Air & Space/Smithsonian, Flight International, Aviation Week, FlightGlobal, and Vertical magazine in Canada.
