John R. Howell

Jack Howell recently retired from teaching Mechanical Engineering at The University of Texas-Austin. He now indulges his interest in the history of technology and in Texas history. He is a member of the US National Academy of Engineering, a Foreign Member of the Russian Academy of Science, and a Life Fellow in the American Society of Mechanical Engineers. He and his wife, Susan Conway, have traveled extensively, and have embarked on many obsolete forms of steam-powered transportation.
